Thanks to the support of the law firm Sobczyńscy i Partnerzy | FSG Law, students from the Faculty of Law and Administration of Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań took part in the final of the world’s largest moot court competition in the field of international arbitration – Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot Court.
A team composed of: Julia Frankiewicz, Gabriela Krawczyk, Dorota Piechowiak, Mikołaj Piekutowski, Natalia Przewoźniak and Zuzanna Rubaszewska. The group’s academic supervisor and mentor throughout the preparation period and during the final was Dr Filip Balcerzak.
In the final, the team submitted two pleadings (a plaintiff’s pleading and a defendant’s pleading), which they had been working on since October 2023. Their aim was to solve a competition case study in the field of international arbitration and the application of the United Nations Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods.
In the final straight, the Poznan team faced teams from India (Gadjah Mada University), Germany (Saarland University), the United States of America (Pace University) and the United Kingdom (BPP Law School).
On their way to the finals, UAM students also participated in the XV Warsaw Pre-Moot (13-14 February 2024), Berlin Pre-Moot 2024 (1-3 March 2024) and CAM-CCBC Hamburg Pre-Moot (20 March 2024). During these evenst, the young law students honed their legal and rhetorical skills in simulated arbitration hearings and developed a final argumentation strategy. More than 2,500 students took part in the competition, representing 373 universities from 89 countries.
